Janitor 1 - Night Shift

REPORTS TO:   Vice President of Employment Services

STATUS:          Full-Time 30-35 hrs a week

SCHEDULE:      Night Shift- 6:30pm to 12:30 a.m.

LOCATION:       Us Army Corp of Engineers – CERL    Champaign, IL.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:  Cleans and maintains CERL office building to ensure a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment for all agency constituents.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS:  This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:   Less than 5%.

SPECIFIC ACTIVITES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Completes assigned daily work schedule as prepared by supervisor; • Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; • Vacuums carpets thoroughly up to baseboards to be free of dust, dirt and particles; • Washes windows, interior and exterior, and cleans blinds as scheduled; • Maintains washrooms and locker rooms, de-scale toilet bowls and urinals, maintain floors – sweep and damp mop,  sanitizing all surfaces and keeping supplies stocked; • Keeps kitchen and cafeteria areas clean and stocked; • Cleans all drinking fountains so that they are free form spots, stains, smudges or streaks; • Picks up trash from offices, cleans cans as necessary, and provides fresh supplies of bags; • Removes trash and breaks down boxes and disposes of debris properly; • Uses provided equipment properly and safely, including industrial vacuum cleaner, floor scrubber, polisher, floor sweeper, and all tools needed for assigned tasks; • Adjusts hours, as needed, to assist with special projects and events; • Performs all duties with an attitude of safety and consideration displayed by all employees of The Chicago Lighthouse; • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS • High school diploma or equivalent required; • At least one year of previous maintenance experience preferred; • Dependability, cooperation, and ability to work independently required; • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and operate equipment required; • Commitment to our mission of providing opportunities for people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf-blind, or multi-disabled is essential.
